Guide to Carrying out an Online Dialogue

18 – 26 Sptember

This September, participate in IN ACTION WEEK for the Global Goals by organizing and online dialogue!

GOAL OF THE DIALOGUE

The goal of the dialogue can be to promote the Global Goals as a just and sustainable plan for recovery from the pandemic, bringing many different groups of interested parties to the table for dialogue on:

• developing a platform for debate where experts, scientists and market representatives can submit their views on broad implementation of the Global Goals in Greece, and developing post-pandemic benchmarks on a national and local level.

• engagement in dialogue aimed at finding transformative proposals and multi-stakeholder solutions based on the Global Goals.
• spreading your vision of Sustainable Development and mobilising your audiences for ongoing participation in sustainable action.

Developing a Dialogue

a. FRAMEWORK

The following questions can provide a framework for the online dialogue and guide the discussion.

  • What is your assessment of the current situation? Do you think we’re at a turning point?

Make sure to refer to facts and statistical data related to the issues being discussed.

  • What is the ideal world for you?

Encourage radical thought.

  • What is the current situation regarding implementation of the Global Goals in our country / administrative region / municipality / local community?
  • What have you done to capitalise on the current situation to promote a more sustainable future and make a significant impact?

Limit yourself to specific actions carried out by individuals or organizations. Closer consideration will give you a better understanding of how specific actions lead to the ideal world.

  • What advice would you give, based on your experience, to help people see the bigger picture?

In closing the dialogue, the participants might mention persons or sources of inspiration/information (books, blogs, etc.).

b. PREPARATION

Think about your audience.

Determine who is interested in the dialogue and what issues they want to or should hear about.

Choose and invite the speakers.

Depending on the format for the dialogue, you can invite one speaker and one commentator or a moderator and a group of speakers.

Prepare the program for the dialogue.

Create a program for the dialogue, including information on the speakers, specific questions adapted to the topic, and a timeframe.

Regulate the dialogue.

Prepare your digital platform and schedule the dialogue.

Promotion and inviting participants.

Create announcement to invite participants and promote the dialogue among the audience you are addressing. Send invitations to specific lists of people.
